The Italian interior minister, Matteo Salvini, wrote today on Twitter that The Netherlands are responsible for the migrants rescued by flag waving Sea Watch boat.
It is not the first time that Salvini points the finger against The Netherlands although international law experts are divided over the topic. As German ngo Sea Watch sails with Dutch flag, might the country be found responsible for those rescued?
” I personally wrote to my Dutch colleague”, Salvini said “I am incredulous because they are not interested in a boat sailing with their flag. We will hold the Dutch government, and the European Union responsible for whatever will happen to all women and men aboard SeaWatch.”
? Good morning #EU! We hope you had a good night. People on #SeaWatch3 didn’t. A young man had to be evacuated as a medical emergency. We thank @guardiacostiera for the good cooperation. And we appeal to politics again: this charade needs to end, this suffering needs to end now. pic.twitter.com/NGmpxdc5hu
