Come riporta NWS, il 4 agosto del 1945 un aereo militare americano sorvolava la costa fiamminga. Più di 80 fotografie di quel momento ci mostrano la costa occidentale delle Fiandre.
Le fotografie, riunite nel libro De Kust. 4 augustus 1945. De zomer van de vrijheid di Birger Stichelbaut e Wouter Gheyle, restituiscono la realtà della guerra. Dalle foto, infatti, si può vedere l’area bruciata dei tedeschi della costa est di Ostenda. In generale, gli scatti ritraggono la costa fiamminga di 76 anni fa, sia nei suoi paesaggi che nelle sue scene di vita.
