Riyad al-Maliki, Palestinian Foreign Minister, urged Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), to promptly investigate the situation of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. The upcoming Israeli government is planning to move forward on the West Bank and illegally impose Israeli law on the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories. Al-Maliki thus argues that it is a time sensitive situation and should be investigated immediately, according to a WAFA article.

In the meeting between the two, held in The Hague last Wednesday, al-Maliki presented an annual report on Israeli crimes against Palestinian people to Bensouda. He continued by discussing how Israeli courts dropped the murder charges of the arsonists who ended up burning an 18-month old toddler and his parents to death, in the West Bank village of Duma. Al-Maliki argued that this proves that the Israeli legal system is unjust and that the ICC is required to intervene.

The Foreign Minister also mentioned that Palestine’s support for the ICC has remained steady, even as the US has made threats against it. Al-Maliki also previously submitted an indictment list to the International Court of Justice against the US for its illegal moving of its embassy to Jerusalem, reported WAFA.
