A collective of special interest groups calling themselves Alliance UN Convention has issued a report around employment opportunities for the disabled in the Netherlands.

The report comes despite the Netherlands 2016 ratification of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, where employers were given bonuses to employ disabled people, and yields the conclusion of failure. In fact, between 2012 and 2017, disabled unemployment increased by a quarter. Furthermore, it concludes that the “chronically ill” are still poorer, find it increasingly difficult to access proper care and special education services. This combination has made many in the disabled population feel discriminated against.

Ths Alliance report comes on the heels of an SCP think-thank who, last month, also said that the government’s plan to integrate more people with physical and mental disabilities into the workforce has largely failed. Cutbacks, a lack of proper monitoring, are but a few conclusions worsening the position of those most affected.
