35% of bars, restaurants, and cafes in the Netherlands are faced with a staff shortage.

The numbers, which come by CBS, show that there are 23,000 hospitality industry vacancies. This number can be compared to the 6,700, post-financial crisis. In Amsterdam, some 40% of hospitality locations are claiming staff shortages, with many claiming they need to adjust opening hours due to lack of personnel.

Still, despite the numbers, owners remain positive about their businesses. Fourth-quarter 2019 confidence indexes yield a figure of 1.9, which still is the lowest in six years.
